The calculated parameters in METEOTREK

We have already mentioned that in the latest METEOTREK software update, automatic calculations of active and effective temperature sums, as well as the hydrothermal coefficient (HTC), have been added. We will explain why this is necessary and what benefits these data provide to our users.

The primary goal of any agriculture is to maximize the efficient growth of crops, so progressive agronomists are increasingly using various tools to improve their results. Each plant has its vegetative growth stages, which are directly dependent on the sowing date, weather conditions, and timely treatment.

The sums of effective and active temperatures help agronomists determine the start, end, and duration of the vegetative period and individual phases of plant development, predict the appearance of pests, plan crop geography, especially for new crops.

The hydrothermal coefficient, in turn, helps understand whether there is enough moisture in the soil for the normal development of plants and helps make decisions regarding crop rotation, the need for irrigation systems, and the optimization of business processes in agriculture.

All of the above values are calculated using well-known formulas, but now they do not need to be calculated manually. They are available in the new module of our software, "Station Analysis."

  • Active temperature sum: The sum of daily temperatures during a specified period. For crops grown in Ukraine, this temperature is 5, 10, or 15 degrees Celsius above freezing.

  • Effective temperature sum: A similar formula, but the average daily temperature is reduced by the biological minimum, which not only differs for different crops but also varies for different vegetative phases.

  • HTC: 10% of the sum of precipitation for the selected period with an average daily temperature above 10 degrees Celsius, divided by the sum of active temperatures above the same 10 degrees Celsius.

All METEOTREK users can now receive data automatically. You only need to select the period and the necessary temperature values for calculations.

We hope that this new functionality will bring significant benefits to our users, and we continue to work on expanding the capabilities of the METEOTREK product.
